AlphaTykes – Foreign languages for littlies

Giraffe Early Learning Centre has staff, children and families that speak different languages at home and in the centre and do our best to make people feel welcome, included and valued. Giraffe Early Learning Centre is now bilingual, having integrated a language program into our centre. The program is run by the market leader in foreign languages for children, AlphaTykes.

Native-speaking teachers from AlphaTykes visit our centre every week. They run lessons with each group, 30 minutes for the children aged less than three years and 55 minutes for the children aged over three years. The program is included as part of the Giraffe Early Learning Centre fees. Parents can purchase other learning material such as flash cards, activity books, storybooks and CDs from AlphaTykes by picking up a Module Material order form in our centre.

This program is encouraged throughout the week by the centre staff through:

• storytelling (with the help of CD’s and storybooks)
• songs
• physical games and quiet games
• activity sheets that your children will be able to bring home to show you

Letterland – Successfully teaching your child to read and write

Letterland is a unique, phonics based approach to teaching, reading, writing and spelling for 3-8 year olds. Letterland provides a link between letter sounds and letter shapes.

At Giraffe Early Learning Centre we believe it is essential that our preschool children are given a solid foundation in phonics before moving to primary school. Letterland helps to build this foundation in a unique play based way.

Your preschool child has free access to computers at Giraffe Early Learning Centre. This well established and successful system will help teach your child

• Sustain attentive listening and respond to what they have heard
• Extend their vocabulary and explore the meaning of sounds and new words
